Student Success Statement Theodore Hesburgh

Student Success Statement

"My basic principle is that you don't make decisions because they are easy; you don't make them because they are cheap; you don't make them because they're popular; you make them because they're right."

What this quote is trying to say is that you make decisions simply because they are right, because it's the right thing to do. You don't make decisions based on how much they cost or the popularity they have you make them so they can have a great impact on you on the long run. If you make decisions based on popularity or on how cheap they are then you are making the wrong decisions. For example: smoking. Smoking is popular and if your friends ask you to smoke with them you're not going to say yes just because they are popular. You have to make decisions that will help and benefit you, not decisions that will drain you. Also, you don't decide to buy beer just because they're cheap, you have to decide if it's really going to help you. It's always the best to make decisions that are right.
