What this quote is trying to say is that a person is on truly great when they are good all around. When a person who makes good decisions, and always choose the right then those are the ones who are truly good. For example if a kid is really good at a sport, but makes bad decisions on the weekend, then he really isn't truly great. In order to be truly great, you have to be truly good to yourself, not just one thing. If you're only making good choices sometimes then that doesn't count as being a truly great person, because you can't be truly great sometimes. You have to be truly great all the time showing that you are a truly good person who always think before they act.
