Duties and
Responsibilities:
Psychiatrists
are physicians who specialize in the problems of mental illness. As physicians,
they are licensed to use a wide variety of treatments and may write
prescriptions. Psychiatrists may work for the government, have their own
private practice, or work in hospitals, clinics or universities. Their duties
include:
· Designing treatment
programs.
· Conducting psychotherapy
sessions.
· Supervising
electrotherapy treatments.
· Conducting research.
· Leading a team of mental
health care providers.
Educational Requirements: Bachelors, Masters, Ph.D. degrees
In addition to
completing the requirements for a degree in allopathic
or osteopathic medicine, psychiatrists must
complete an intensive three year residency in psychiatry.
Reflection: Do you think you would like to be one? Why? Why not?
I
think I would like to be a psychiatrist because I would like to help people by
giving them treatment for any problem they may have. Many people have problems
and I would like to help them overcome that problem. I also like communicating
with people and psychiatry is basically talking with people and trying to help
them. I would like to hear their problems and figure out a way I can help them.
Also this job is very well paying. This job requires educational requirements
and by completing those educational requirements I could use them for another
job not just specifically psychiatry.
